Homeless man to face court after assaulting couple

A 29-year-old homeless man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a couple with baseball bats in Canberra’s south yesterday.

Around 9am, police arrived at a house in Bonython after the occupants reported they had been assaulted earlier in the morning by two men armed with baseball bats.

The two victims, a 42-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, were taken to The Canberra Hospital for treatment.

Around 4pm, detectives from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations arrested one of the men involved in the assault.

The 29-year-old man was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.

He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today where police will be opposing bail.
