YOU haven’t the ghost of a chance of getting into the Canberra Dance Development Centre’s packed-out performance of  “Sylphide” at The Canberra Theatre on Saturday, but if you could, you’d see born ballet star Paul Knobloch in full flight.

Knobloch will perform a solo work alongside students from the centre as it celebrates Canberra’s centenary.

Knobloch first trained at age 12 under the direction of CDDC founder Jackie Hallahan, then won a string of awards and scholarships that eventually took him to the Australian Ballet School, where he graduated with honours in 1997.

After an exciting career with The Australian Ballet, Knobloch  danced with  Switzerland’s Béjart Ballet Lausanne, also performing at the Paris Opera and  across Europe, China and Japan.

Knobloch Joined San Francisco’s Alonzo King Lines Ballet in 2011, but not before he had started exploring the world of choreography, making his professional choreographic debut with the Australian Ballet in 2006 in collaboration with young Australian composer Anne Cawrse and the ANU School of Music.

Knobloch returns to Canberra to share his international experiences, knowledge and the gift of dance with students and teachers at his former school and  the broader Canberra dance community. Just last week he shared his views and  experiences with members of the Canberra Critics’ Circle at one of its new “in conversation” sessions.
