LOCAL photographer Katherine Griffiths from (yes) Griffith is tickled pink to have been selected as One of the 13 finalists in the photography category for the competition “SOYA365.”
Griffiths, who graduated with Honours in 2010 from the ANUSchool of Art, was selected from many hundreds of entries. Now she’s in the running to win a coveted mentorship with celebrated international photographer Polly Borland, as well as $5,000 in Qantas air travel to Travel wherever her inspiration takes her.
In entering the competition, Griffiths submitted examples from all her series of works in her artistic journey. “I call it a journey,” she says, “because that is how I would best describe my practice – an evolving journey depicting my thoughts, emotions and ideas often presented through creative narratives.”
Artists that have inspired her include Jeff Wall, Anne Zahalka, Sam Taylor-Wood and Gregory Crewdson, Nikki S. Lee.
“SOYA365” is aimed at finding Australia’s best emerging artists, designers and creatives under 30 across 11 creative fields and has already uncovered countless incredibly talented young Australians.
