Man arrested after machete stand-off

A 31-year-old Macquarie man has been arrested after a lengthy stand-off with police yesterday, where he threatened officers with a machete.

Earlier in the day the man allegedly contacted police and made several threats.

When police arrived at the man’s house he was armed with a machete and made threats towards their safety.

After about two hours of negotiation, the man surrendered peacefully to police. No one was injured during the incident.

The man was taken into custody and conveyed to the ACT Watch House and will be charged with Possess Offensive Weapon with Intent.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
