Man charged over mail-order drugs

A 24-YEAR-OLD Franklin man was scheduled to face court today on drug importation charges following a three-week investigation into an amphetamine shipment from overseas.

Police afp cops-0021A package arrived in Sydney on Wednesday, November 27, and was intercepted by Customs officers who found that it contained amphetamines.

The illegal substance was removed before the parcel went on to its intended address, a P.O Box in Canberra.

Last Monday, December 9, the young man was captured on Closed Circuit Television as he picked up the package from the post office.

He was arrested and charged with importing a marketable quantity of border controlled drugs at about 10.30am on Tuesday this week following an extensive search of a home in Franklin, which involved detectives from the local Drugs and Organised Crime Team with the assistance of Homicide detectives, General Duties officers, Digital Forensics and Crime Scene examiners.
