Man robs supermarket at gunpoint for cash, cigarettes

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after robbing a Mawson supermarket at gunpoint, stealing cash and cigarettes. 

About 6.30am, the man entered the Woolworths Caltex in Mawson and threatened a staff member with the firearm.

The man took cigarettes and a small sum of cash before fleeing in a silver Ford 4WD that was previously stolen from a burglary in Wanniassa.

Police caught the man using CCTV footage.

Based on the information gathered, police arrested a man in Phillip.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House and is expected to be charged with numerous offences, including aggravated robbery.

Investigations are continuing.
