THE enterprising Palace Electric Cinemas are hosting a mini-festival devoted to the idea that there is such a thing as good clean family entertainment.
Opening with “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (1968), starring Dick Van Dyke as enthusiastic inventor Caractacus Potts, this season, to be called “Flashback Films,” will transport audiences through the ages, with Gene Wilder in the original “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” (1971) to more recent favourites like Spielberg’s Oscar winning “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” (1982).
Cult classics are also covered with David Bowie as the Goblin King in “Labyrinth” (1986), fairy-tale gone awry “A Princess Bride” (1987) and Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in “Ghostbusters” (1984).
Audiences can also see Judy Garland in the original 1939 “The Wizard Of Oz,” remastered for the first time in 3D.
