A multi-media exhibition by participants in the West Belconnen Child and Family Centre “Koori Kids” and “Yurwang Bullarn” (Strong Women’s) groups is opening today at Belconnen Community Centre.
A part of gallery@bcs RESPECT series, it has as its centrepiece a “Tree of Hands” with messages of reconciliation from the West Belconnen community.
Koori Kids is a group for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 6 to 15 that meets weekly at the Child and Family Centre. This program is a culturally dedicated children’s program with a strong emphasis on mentoring and positive role modelling and delves into creative arts, music, physical education and cultural pride. The Strong Women’s Group is a group for women who are mothers and carers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children that provides the women with a place to pursue therapeutic, educational, artistic and social activities.
