Replacement director for ‘Phantom’

NEWS is to hand that Mark Grentell has pulled out of Free Rain Theatre Company’s production of “The Phantom of the Opera,” after a professional opportunity came up.phantom

But fear not, Phantom-lovers, Michael Cormick and
Julie Lea Goodwin will still be playing the lead roles and Grentell has been quickly replaced by recent NIDA graduate and director, David Harmon.

In 2009, Harmon was awarded an OzCo Artistic Residency with Opera Australia and has since assisted with Jim Sharman for Opera Australia’s production of “Cosi Fan Tutte” and “Neil Armfield” on Peter Grimes.

In 2010, he was resident director for the OA revival of Stuart Maunder’s “A Little Night Music.”

He has also worked with ATOP Studio, David Berthold, and now of La Boite  Theatre, NIDA, Griffin Theatre and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Harmon has a definite interest in comedy, having directed the comedy group The Axis of Awesome in their Sydney Opera House debut “Songs in the Key of Awesome”. As well, he  works as a film & television-maker.

“The Phantom of the Opera” at Canberra Theatre, August 9-18, bookings to 6275 2700 or www.canberratheatrecentre.com.au
