RMC Band Christmas extravaganza

band 1THE Royal Military College  Band will celebrate 21 years of lunchtime fundraising concerts with a Christmas music extravaganza at Canberra Theatre tomorrow,  Wednesday, December 4.

The RMC ‘Big Band’ sound has grown from modest beginnings and now attracts hundreds of Canberra residents at each performance. These lunchtime “Music at Midday” concerts, held at 11am and 12.30pm, showcase the talents of the band and give the Canberra Theatre Centre an opportunity to give something back to the community.

For just over two decades Canberra Theatre Centre, in association with the College and supported by the Canberra Labor Club Group, have hosted these concerts six times a year, with proceeds supporting many local charities.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to a local charity.

Now the centre has  announced the six local charities chosen from a pool of 22 applications to receive proceeds from next year’s Music at Midday concerts will be Vinnies (St Vincent de Paul Society), Alzheimer’s Australia ACT, Cancer Council ACT, MS Australia, Menslink and Doris Women’s Refuge.

Director of Canberra Theatre Centre Bruce Carmichael says,“Music at Midday is a great way for city workers to escape the office at lunchtime and excellent entertainment for just a couple of dollars.”
