THE Q Exhibition Space in Queanbeyan is about to launch “Storyweave,” an exhibition of fibre, textiles, screen prints, mixed media, glass, ceramics, photography by six female Indigenous artists, Jenni Kemarre Martiniello, Kerry Reed-Gilbert, Jenny Dries, Alison Hoolihan, Lyndy Delian and Joyce Graham.
The artists on exhibition are all participants in the “Selling Yarns 3: weaving the nation’s story” conference coming up at the NationalMuseum of Australia from February 28 to March 3 and hosted by Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre.
A conference, workshop, market day, and exhibition program, it aims to promote and showcase textile and fibre craft and design practices of Indigenous artists from across Australia.
Both the conference and this exhibition will demonstrate that through cultural practices, a dialogue can be had drawing interested parties together for the benefit of a rich and sustainable Indigenous culture, and to promote and share contemporary Indigenous textile practice.
“Storyweave,” at the The Q Exhibition Space, Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, via Lowe Street , until March 3, Mon to Fri 10am to 4pm and Sat 10am – 3pm, closed Sundays.
