Suspicious fire in pine plantation

ACT firefighters believe a grass fire they put out just over the border in NSW this afternoon was “suspicious”.

Any investigation of how the fire started, including whether it was deliberately lit, is now up to NSW authorities.

No property was under threat at any stage from the fire, which burned about a hectare of grass in Tuggeranong Pine Plantation, just over the railway line that separates the ACT from NSW.

Three units from ACT Fire & Rescue and two units from the ACT Rural Fire Service worked together to extinguish the slow-moving fire using water and foam solution. It was contained about two hours after a “000” call was received at 12.36pm.
