Tango comes to Vivaldi

INSPIRED  by the music of Argentina, Alturas musical sextet combines influences from classical, Latin and tango to create their own blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos.

Alturas Cafe con Tango croppedNow they’re coming to Teatro Vivaldi this weekend to perform a cabaret show featuring works from their debut CD, “Café con Tango” including pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler, Fernando Egozcue, as well as traditional tangos and some original tango-inspired pieces.

Starting with a set of blissful tango-inspired pieces to listen to, the audience will be invited to dance to traditional tangos, milongas and vals, or just sit back and watch the dancing.

Alturas have been performing as a group since 2009, starting out as a duo with Gaye Thomas on flute and Jane Andino on piano, but later expanding to become a sextet with Gaye Thomas on flutes and bandoneon, Inge Courtney-Haentjes on violin, Greg Gibson on saxophones and clarinets, Colin Day on guitar, Adam Bodkin on double bass and Jane Andino on piano.

Alturas Café con Tango at Teatro Vivaldi, ANU Arts Centre, June 1, 7:30pm (Dinner & Show) 8pm (Show only) bookings to 6257 2718.
