THIEVES have stolen two water tanks and even dismantled seats and tables at Namadgi National Park’s Orroral Campground some time this week.

ACT Parks and Conservation Service regional operations manager Brett McNamara says the disappointing theft will cost the ACT about $5000.

“The money spent on replacement is a drain on limited resources which could otherwise be used more efficiently on the parks and reserves,” Mr McNamara says.

“Despite the investment of ranger time and money put into providing high-quality recreation facilities, the community can’t enjoy them when our work is undermined by the actions of thieves.

“While we have a range of strategies in place to prevent wilful acts of theft and vandalism, such as locking gates at night and regular ranger patrols, we appreciate the public’s vigilance in working with the ACT Parks and Conservation Service to help prevent future incidents.

“I urge anyone with information on this theft to report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.”

The Orroral Campground is on the banks of the Orroral River in Namadgi National Park, about 45 minutes outside of Canberra.
