Man arrested following bashing of elderly man
AN ANONYMOUS tip-off has led to the arrest of a man who allegedly bashed and robbed a 75-year-old man on Saturday morning.
A 20-year-old Queensland man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning where bail will be opposed.
Belconnen Station Officer-In-Charge, Sergeant Matthew Corbitt says this arrest demonstrated the vital role members of the community play in assisting police to prevent crime and apprehend offenders.
“This is a positive result for ACT Policing that began with vigilant members of the public calling Crime Stoppers after seeing a facefit of the man in a media release that was sent out yesterday,” Sergeant Corbitt says.
About 9.40am on Saturday, the elderly man was followed from the Commonwealth Bank, where he had made a withdrawal, to the ground level Myer car park of Westfield Belconnen.
The alleged offender threw the man to the ground and kicked him several times, fleeing after stealing the man’s wallet.
