The 2013 ISPS HANDA Women’s Australian Open, held in Canberra for the first time, will take place at the Royal Canberra Golf Club in Yarralumla from February 14-17.

ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says the Open is one of the many highlights of the Centenary of Canberra sporting calendar and golf fans will be in for a treat across the four days of competition.

“Royal Canberra will provide a superb setting for the event and along with Australian players Karrie Webb, Katherine Hull-Kirk and Canberra’s Nikki Campbell, there will be great competition to win the championship.”

Yani Tseng (world number 1), Stacy Lewis (world number 3), Suzann Pettersen (world number 6), So Yeon Ryu (world number 7) and Jiyai Shin (world number 8) are all confirmed to play as the golfing world fixes its eyes on Canberra.

Golf Australia Director of Championships Trevor Herden says the strength of the field was an added bonus for what already promised to be an exciting week.

“We’re delighted to have such a high calibre field in Canberra and to have the world golf spotlight on our capital city in February,” he says.

“Fans will also have the chance to watch Michelle Wie, Laura Davies, defending champion Jessica Korda and a host of tournament winners in action at Royal Canberra.”

The 2013 ISPS HANDA Women’s Australian Open will be a co-sanctioned event between the LPGA and ALPG tours, with the $1.2 million prize the richest in the history of the tournament.
