Wanted: Canberra’s new Face of Racing

THOROUGHBRED Park has begun the search for the 2013 Myer Face of Canberra Racing.

With more than $10,000 in prizes, the competition is in its 5th year and is the only model search of its kind in Canberra.

Each year the number of entrants increase due to the popularity of the competition, says sales and marketing manager Briony Young.

“It’s definitely an ideal launch pad for someone who is interested in modelling or media,” Briony said. “And with it being the Centenary year for Canberra, we hope that the winner will be exposed to greater opportunities throughout her reign.”

The current Face of Canberra Racing, 21-year-old Brittney McGlone, pictured,  has gained plenty of experience over the last 12 months.

“I’ve had some fantastic opportunities and it has been so much fun” she said. “I hosted Thoroughbred Park Fashion TV, there was plenty of photo shoots throughout the year, the experience was invaluable.”

“We are looking for someone with immaculate presentation, someone who is fashion savvy and willing to become Canberra racing’s ambassador,” Brioney said.

“An interest in horse racing is beneficial, but not essential, we’d like someone who is the complete package, sophisticated, well-spoken and confident.”

This year, the competition includes a preliminary heat to be held at a fashion parade at Siren Bar & Restaurant in Gungahlin. Contestants will then parade on Preview Day, Sunday, February 24, with the winner to be announced later that day.

The first engagement for the new winner will be at the Kamberra Wine Company Black Opal Stakes in March.
