Young thieves take the money and run

FOUR opportunistic young thieves were collared last night after they snuck through the back door of a cafe in Forde, grabbed some cash and ran.

Police-3210Police say the owner of the cafe and an employee were sitting out the front at about 11.10pm when the youths came in the back and took the money.

According to police, the cafe workers heard the young criminals drop the cash tin on their way out the door and chased after them, stopping them a short while later.

Police came and arrested the youths, who were scheduled to face court today on charges of aggravated burglary and theft.

Gungahlin Station Sergeant Donna Hofmeier says thieves are “normally opportunistic”.

“It is important for businesses to ensure that valuables are properly secured and that money is locked away and out of sight,” Sergeant Hofmeier says.

“Businesses should ensure all locks are in working order and that security systems are functioning properly.”
