KATY Gallagher says the ACT Government will be a principal partner for the CBR 100 Challenge, a new sporting event.

The ACT Government will contribute $50,000 to the event as part of its commitment to combating obesity and helping to make healthy lifestyle choices easier in the Canberra community.

“It is my pleasure to launch this great new event for our city, the CBR 100 Challenge. I’ll be participating in the inaugural event and I encourage the community to embrace this fitness challenge and get involved too,” Katy said.

Initiated and managed by local company Earlybird events, the CBR 100 Challenge encourages teams of three to walk 25km, 50km, or 100km along Canberra’s Centenary Trail. Ultra marathon runners have the opportunity to tackle 100km as a soloist.

“The various distances will appeal to all fitness levels and each route weaves participants through the best of Canberra – from our iconic buildings to stunning bushland.

“Support will also be available to participants, which is particularly good for beginners.

“I welcome the Heart Foundation as charity partner and hope walkers, runners and supporters of the event chose to donate to this worthwhile organisation when registering to participate.

“The Challenge will be not only embody the Government’s commitment to supporting a healthy, active and productive community, but will also showcase the Centenary Trail, through iconic and lesser-known locations,” the Chief Minister said.

The event will take place on 21-22 March 2015. For more information on the CBR 100 Challenge visit
