THE ACT’s unemployment rate has decreased, according to new data.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics says the ACT’s unemployment rate fell to 3.8 per cent in January from 4 per cent, despite expectations public service job cuts would hurt the Canberra workforce.
The participation rate remained steady at 71.3 per cent.
Nationally however, Australia’s unemployment rate has jumped to 6 per cent for the first time in more than a decade.
The ABS estimates that 3,700 jobs were lost in January, pushing the national unemployment rate from 5.8 up to 6 per cent for the first time since July 2003.
