DESPITE some sensational (and possibly innumerate) reporting elsewhere the September Labour Force statistics released today show that Canberra’s unemployment is still at an investment-discouraging low of 4.6%, up from 4.4% the previous month.
That does mean we’re now slightly higher than the Northern Territory, but still doing better than the rest of the nation.
When you consider Canberra’s higher average wages we’re doing unbelievably well. A 2% increase to a still very low number, considering the cuts to the Public Service, is nothing to get worried about.
