ActewAGL warns of hoax callers

ACTEWAGL is warning customers to be cautious of hoax telephone calls and emails, following recent reports of calls from a fake “Reclaim Department” of the Australian Government.  telephone

Customers have also reportedly received emails from a group called Dio Community and an Accounts Department, where, in all instances, the scammer says the customer has either “exceeded their electricity use or owes ActewAGL money”.

“If you are suspicious of any activity, ask for verification such as your account number and name, alternatively, just hang up and call 13 14 93 and we will assist you,” says ActewAGL General Manager Retail Ayesha Razzaq. 

These scams should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to ActewAGL on 13 14 93.

Customers concerned about these calls should contact the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission via the SCAMwatch website (www.scamwatch.gov.au) or by calling 1300 795 995.
