Ainslie man arrested for assault in a Civic apartment

ACT Policing has arrested a 34-year-old Ainslie man following the assault of a woman at a City residence on the evening of Wednesday, August 13.

About 9.20pm, a male entered the apartment complex on Coranderrk Street, Canberra City, and requested entry to an apartment. After a dispute with a female resident of the apartment, the male assaulted and sexually assaulted the resident near the entry of the apartment. Another resident of the apartment then came to the aid of the victim and the offender fled the apartment. The male was unknown to the victim at the time of the assault.

The incident was then reported to police, who attended the location and canvassed the area for CCTV and witnesses. AFP Forensics Services also attended the location.

As a result of the police investigation, a 34-year-old Ainslie man was today arrested in relation to the assault. He was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with assault and sexual assault in the second degree.

He will face the ACT Magistrate’s Court later today.
