Andrew Barr calls for calm

keep calm

CHIEF Minister Barr is assuring the citizenry that all is well despite a standoff in Sydney that would best be treated as a mental health issue.

“The reported hostage situation currently taking place in the Sydney CBD is of deep concern,” Andrew said.

“It is important for Canberrans to know that there has been no specific threat to the ACT identified at this time, and that the ACT Government is working closely with ACT Policing and national committees to ensure our planning elements are sufficiently in place for the on-going security and safety of the community.

“There are strong, well tested plans and resources to effectively respond to any event that threatens safety.

“People should continue to go about business as usual but be conscious of any suspicious activity and, most importantly, to report suspicions and concerns to the appropriate authorities.

“If you notice anything out of the ordinary, information can be provided anonymously to:

  • the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400
  • to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
  • Police Operations on 131 444 or
  • or visit the website at nationalsecurity.gov.au
