THE ACT & Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry has announced the resignation of Andrew Blyth as its Chief Executive Officer.

Chamber Chairman and Managing Director, Good Guys Tuggeranong, Mr Julian Barrington-Smith said that Andrew had played a pivotal role in the repositioning of the Chamber and has delivered results such as: an increase in new member registrations, including attracting high-profile members, identifying new revenue streams, building strong relationships with key local and Federal Government stakeholders, securing policy changes that have benefited local businesses, boosting the profile of local sporting and community organisations, and importantly, ensuring the organisation’s financial viability.

As a result of the recent agreement between the Chamber and the Canberra Business Council to form a new business representative organisation Andrew will leave the Chamber on 30 September. While Andrew was offered a senior management role in the new organisation he has decided to pursue alternative career opportunities.

“On behalf of the Chamber Board, staff and members, I would like to thank Andrew for his hard work over the past year during which time the Chamber has taken significant steps forward through adopting strong financial management practices and delivering creative business solutions. Andrew’s commitment to advocating for businesses in the ACT and surrounding region has achieved many results and is very much appreciated by our members who have come to rely on Andrew as the ‘voice for business’,” Mr Barrington-Smith said.

“Andrew should take a good deal of the credit for the way in which he has worked to put the needs of our members first and to improve the way in which the Chamber operates, and while we are very sorry to see him leave, we respect his decision and he departs on the best of terms.”

For Andrew the past year has been both challenging and rewarding: “It has been an honour and a privilege to have served as the Chamber’s CEO since 1 July last year. I have enjoyed being an advocate for local business and I hope I have made a difference. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many people in business, each impressing me with their entrepreneurial spirit and drive to succeed. I am going to miss this job, my staff, and our valued members but I hope to continue standing up for business in some capacity in the future,” Andrew said.
