Barton car parks closing for paid parking conversion

THE National Capital Authority is giving notice that the wild dirt car parks of Barton, often known in the triangle as “Parking in Narnia”, are going to be closed, paved, gentrified, and turned over to paid parking.

“The first stage of upgrade works will commence in the car park adjacent to the York Park Oak Plantation (York Park car park) and Windsor Walk in Barton from Monday 14 April 2014.
The works include car park resurfacing, line marking, installation of parking machines, landscaping and footpath improvements.

“New access points will also be created into the York Park car park, to improve sightlines along Windsor Walk for motorists entering and exiting the car park.

“Due to the nature of these works, the York Park car park in Barton will be temporarily closed from Saturday 12 April and will reopen on 1 July 2014.

“Windsor Walk will remain open for much of the project, to allow access to adjacent buildings. There will be temporary closures of some car spaces, however many spaces will remain open along Windsor Walk during the upgrade works.”

The Authority has created a helpful list of public transport resources for those unable or unwilling to pay for all day parking.
