Belconnen leads the way for stolen cars, speeding tickets, and sexual assaults

Crime statistics - ACT Policing - Google Chrome 8072014 105422 AM

ACT Policing have updated their Crime Statistics widget for the second quarter of 2014 and it’s always illuminating to see what the crime statistics say about Canberra’s regions.

North Canberra generally has more crime, a combination of housing tracts and the Civic night life presumably.

Areas that stick their heads against general trends though are:

  • South Canberra for motor vehicle theft, possibly on account of having nicer motor vehicles to be stealing.
  • Tuggeranong stars for Property Damage and Assault.
  • Gungahlin is unusually prominent for “Offences against a person” (abduction and kidnapping, the police explain).
  • But Belconnen has hosted an unfortunate combination of high levels of motor vehicle theft, traffic infringement notices, and sexual assault.

Make of that what you will.
