Big storm sweeping in

THE rain radar appears to show a strong storm sweeping in from the North West.

For people in the Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the Mid North Coast, Central Tablelands, Lower Western, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.
Issued at 1:46 pm Wednesday, 3 December 2014.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands districts. Locations which may be affected include Tenterfield, Tabulam, Baryulgil, Jackadgery, Dorrigo and Ebor.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds over the next several hours in the Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the Central Tablelands, Lower Western, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains districts. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Canberra, Goulburn, Yass, Dubbo and Parkes.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don’t walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 4:50 pm.

And the ESA are responding to calls.

The ACT SES has received a total of seven calls for help since 2pm following the wet weather.

Calls for help have been for leaking roofs as well as damaged branches from trees across a widespread area of Canberra.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the ACT with damaging winds and the potential for large hail this afternoon.

Residents can call the ACT SES on 132 500 for storm or flood assistance.
