The memberships of the Canberra Business Council and the ACT Chamber of Commerce have voted to reunite 40 years after they split.
The two bodies started moving towards the merger in February at which time they were glowing about the possibilities.
“It’s time for the Council and the Chamber to come together as a single organisation to represent the interests of business in Canberra and the region,” said Michelle Melbourne, Chair of the Council and Julian Barrington-Smith, Chair of the Chamber.
“By combining the skills, experience and resources of the Chamber and Council we will create a single, stronger organisation.
The new body will, for the first year, have a board made up of equal members from each body. That board will set the new membership fees.
