Calling all (good) stencil artists

CANBERRA is well known for its stencil art and, most particularly for its famous stencil artist, E.L.K.

Now, we hear, Albury City Council has got together with the Sydney-based Stencil Art Prize to find an emerging stencil artist to paint the construction wall on the Albury Regional Art Gallery redevelopment.

It’s all about livening up the precinct of the revamped Albury Regional Art Gallery, and as they say, “The design needs to appeal to young and old and could be loud and bright, fun and whimsical, or just something super-cool that will make people in Albury want to get their smart phones out.”

The artist’s fee proposed is $1500, the material costs will be covered by the City Council and the artist will also be expected to run a small workshop for young local artists. Reimbursement will be provided for up to $600 in transport and accommodation. Art Gallery staff point out that an association with the new gallery represents a solid opportunity for an emerging artist to develop their CV.

The new Albury Regional Art Gallery will reopen mid 2015 after a major makeover featuring permanent collection galleries and  four large contemporary galleries suited to multimedia installation, emerging artist galleries, shop, café and workshop studios.

Deadlines for expressions of interest is April 28. To apply visit http://www.stencilartprize.com/paint-the-wall-stencil-artist-opportunity/

After that, answer the application questions via email and send an example of your design. Inquiries to  Jacinta at director@stencilartprize.com or 0422 033 055.
