THE National Film and Sound Archive of Australia’s Arc cinema program will stage a special tribute to the greatest of all movie stars, Charlie Chaplin this Saturday August 30.

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of Chaplin’s first appearance as his iconic character The Tramp. To celebrate this milestone Arc presents “Chaplinitis,” a day of Chaplin-related fun for kids and adults alike. Enjoy live music accompaniment, documentaries, and a discussion panel with international experts, and a selection of his early classics and rarities – all beautifully restored. IMOGEN Cooper has established a reputation as one of the finest interpreters of the classical repertoire. ARTIST Tony Giles has his third solo exhibition, “More Girls,” at Paintbox Fine Art, 32 Lonsdale St, Braddon from August 30 to September 14, 11am-5pm Wednesday-Sunday. “Each painting is a journey of discovery and his whimsical characters are born as he works, evolving with every layer of paint. The multiple layers give the paintings depth and lustre moving from dark to light to create a vibrancy on textured canvases,” he says.

MEANTIME in the Foyer at Belconnen Arts Centre, 118 Emu Bank, Belconnen until Sept 14, Jemima Parker’s “Transitions” extends her explorations of the blurred boundaries between art and fashion. Using drawing, screen-printing and textile processes Jemima presents a series of hand-printed sculptural textile objects that can be installed in the gallery space or worn on the body, together with a suite of works on paper. 10am – 4pm Tuesday – Sunday.

THE Q Exhibition Space a composite of two exhibitions by Edwin Gardiner until September 6, 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday 10am – 3pm Saturday, closed Sundays. Gardiner’s work includes the ‘Price of Oil’ painting series exhibited in Melbourne 2012, and the more recent paintings series of paintings called ‘Presence and Absence’.

MEGALO has new work by Deborah Metz involving stone lithography, mokuhanga and frottage.
