Chapman shops upgrade kicks off

katy

FILLING in for the holidaying Shane Rattenbury, Katy Gallagher today announced the start of a $1.2 million upgrade to the public space at Chapman Shopping Centre.

“The upgrade at Chapman Shops will help revitalise the area, providing locals and traders with a safer, more accessible and attractive centre,” Katy said.

The upgrade at the shops will include:

  • New street furniture such as seats, a drinking fountain, picnic setting and shade structure, bike racks and bins.
  • Significant improvements to pedestrian access in and around the shops.
  • Improvements to car park safety and parking for disabled people and new lighting for better security.
  • More trees and drought tolerant shrubs.

“New signage to identify the centre to passing traffic will also be installed, and visibility will be improved to the shopfronts from Perry Street.

“One highlight of the upgrade is the inclusion of a new community gathering space with views across to Black Mountain. A picnic setting and shade structure in the space will provide locals with a place to gather and relax.

Works at the Chapman Shopping Centre are expected to be completed in December 2014.
