Cheap lunches. The Indo Cafe on London Circuit

DSC06599

THE Indo Cafe is a revered institution in Eastern Civic.

For one sky blue $10 note you get one of a choice of dishes on rice, a little entree, and a can of soft drink.

I went for chicken satay with a corn fritter starter, a can of coke, and lashings of dried shallots on the satay.

Chicken satay is a dish that can easily be bland, or just overpoweringly peanutty.

But these guys really know their stuff and it was just a delight to eat from start to finish.

The Indo Cafe team are both founders and mainstays of Canberra’s cheap lunch scene and long may they prosper.

You can find them sheltered in the Waldorf building in the shadow of 221 London Circuit (the ducks).

[This article is the twentieth in a series on cheap lunches to be found in and around the city. If you have any suggestions leave them in the comments or email them to john@citynews.com.au . The complete series can be found on our cheap lunches tag]
