The Pita Pit on Mort Street in Braddon is a curious beast on a few levels.

Firstly it is that rarest of beasts in Australia, part of a Canadian franchise.

Secondly it’s managed to open immediately prior to the Bent Spoke brewery next door, which is a handy thing for what is at least in part a kebab shop.

Finally this franchise is owned by two Canberra Raiders players Brett White and Glen Turner.

When I popped in today the small shop was full to bursting with Raiders players.

The choice of fillings, seasonings, toppings, and sauces is bewildering (the permutations would run into the thousands) and not immediately apparent at the start of the ordering process. As a system I imagine it works best for people who know the selections well.

It’s pretty much possible to get yourself a wrap spanning the culinary landscape from the Middle East to California via Mexico.

I went for the roast lamb (just lean lamb cubes seared on a grill), cajun seasoning, a bit of salad, and chipotle sauce. The full size pocket goes for $10.90 but they do have a smaller option, and some fillings are sub $10.

(Vegetarians, it is grudgingly noted, are well catered to here)

They do a pretty good job of squaring the circle and making a tasty, yet healthy, hot wrap.

If you’re hungry though it might leave you wanting more.
