Corbell’s development bill railroaded into Committee

SIMON Corbell is putting a brave face on the referral to Committee of his Planning and Development (Project Facilitation) Amendment Bill.

In a face saving measure the bill has received a largely meaningless agreement in principle from the Assembly but will now have to stand up to more robust scrutiny and possible community opposition.

“The ACT Government is committed to reducing red tape in the building and construction industry but it also wants to ensure major projects with substantial public benefit cannot be held up by third party appeals and unnecessary processes,” Simon said.

Mr Corbell anticipates the bill returning for debate in the Assembly in May.
