CSO history remembered

COMPOSER Larry Sitsky and the National Film and Sound Archive’s Manager of Research Programs, Jenny Gall,  will be presenting a social and aesthetic history of the origins of Canberra Symphony Orchestra and music-making in the ACT at the archive this Friday.

Their presentation will include historic images and a collection of live performances recorded from 1966-75.

Emeritus Professor Larry Sitsky is a composer, teacher and musicologist who is admired and respected internationally for his contributions to the promotion of  musical performance, pedagogy and scholarship. Sitsky, throughout his career, has been passionately committed to establishing a tradition of excellence for music tuition in Canberra, and under Ernest Llewellyn was a founding staff member of the Canberra School of Music.

Dr Gall worked for Sitsky as Research Officer for 2008-2010 on the Australian research Council project “The Role of the Piano in Australian Cultural History” .

Sitsky and Gall presentation in the NFSA Theatrette, McCoy Circuit Acton, Friday,  February 21, 5:30-6:30pm,  no bookings necessary.
