Out and about with death cap mushrooms

IN recent weeks we’ve heard a lot about death cap mushrooms, with four Canberrans already in hospital after eating them and rangers reportedly being sent out and about to collect them wherever they may be found.

So it was with some satisfaction that the Kelpies of Few Accomplishment and I came across a veritable grove of death cap mushrooms around Reid Oval this morning. Not fifty metres from a Rangers’ Depot.

  • Whitish stalk, check!
  • Sickly green and yellow hue, check!
  • White gills, check!
  • Growing under oak trees, check!
