Double demerits return for the Anzac Day long weekend

police

ACT Policing is urging motorists to drive safely over the ANZAC Day long weekend and warns that double demerits will apply for speeding and seatbelt offences, with an extra point for all other traffic offences.

Double demerit points are effective today (Thursday, April 24) until midnight on Sunday April 27, 2014.

Traffic Operations Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said ACT Policing will continue to target dangerous driving behaviour over the ANZAC Day period.

“We were thankful for a fatality free Easter period and we want to see that continue over the ANZAC Day long weekend,” Sergeant Anderson said.

“We’re encouraging Canberrans to keep our roads safe by staying within the speed limits, obeying traffic controls and not drinking and driving. Make sure you fasten your seatbelt and remember it is your responsibility to ensure that all occupants of your vehicle are wearing their seatbelts.”
