“CONTEMPLATING Crace: First Thoughts” is a show resulting from research and teaching partnership headed by University of Canberra health researcher Professor Helen Berry and ANU Emeritus Fellow John Reid. by undergraduates, postgraduates and practising artists from ANU’s School of Art have in part responded to “The Crace Study,” is a yearly survey that aims to establish what makes a suburb a great place to live a happy and healthy life. It’s opening tonight, Thursday June 12, in ANU’s School of Art Foyer Gallery and runs until Saturday, June 21.

OUTGOING ‘Oddfellow’ at the Oddfellows’ Hall in Comur Street Yass, the artist Kim Nelson, is hosting a concert by The String Contingent tomorrow, Friday, June 13 at 7.30pm that features Yass’s “very own wunderkind”, youthful singer-songwriter Siobhan McGrath. Tickets at the door.

THE Artists Shed at 14 Foster Street, Queanbeyan will be closing its doors on Music and Art from the end of this month. But Soursob Bob is heading for the Artists Shed, this Saturday June 14 at 7.30pm, supported by Queanbeyan singer Juliet Ward, who was the singer from 80s band The Lighthouse Keepers. Soursob takes his name from a weed (Oxalis pes-caprae) is a songwriter and performer of “mythic storytelling and observation from his own perspective”. Oh yes, Local comedian and clown Jasper Burfoot will open proceedings with a short set of new work. Bookings to music@artistsshed.com – payment at the door on the night. On Sunday there’ll an extended Sunday Sessions from 2pm to 7pm or later with many of the shed’s regulars. Readers, fear not, they’re planning to reopen in new premises just around the corner from September 1.

BARONESS Bianka yearns to live a normal life free from the passion which plagues her… Her “Songs of blood” prove the way towards healing and self acceptance in this dark premiere of the 10th one woman show from songwriter Joanna Weinberg, at in “ Baroness Bianka’s Bloodsongs,” directed by Lisa Freshwater and designed and photographed by Brigette Thorn. BELCONNEN Arts Centre, 118 Emu Bank, Belconnen, will host a concert directed by Alan Hicks when, at 2.30pm this Saturday June 14 with the University of Canberra Chorale in ‘Songs of Peace and War’. The concert will feature Handel’s ‘Eternal Source of Light Divine’, songs of WW1 and works by Bach, Purcell, Butterworth, Ireland and Wrango. Also featured will be guest soloists Jessica Harper, soprano, Christina Wilson, mezzo soprano, David Yardley, countertenor, and Rohan Thatcher, baritone. STAFF of the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Canberra are experimenting with ways of thinking and making that allow them to build knowledge, while expanding the vigour and creativity of their art practice. You can see some results in “Unruly Orchestrations,” running at the faculty’s gallery from tomorrow, June 13 to 29. Meet the artists: Sunday, June 22 at 3pm

A new exhibition of sculptural assemblages and painting installations called “Intimate Obsessions” by Kael Stasce and Hayley Lander opens at Canberra Contemporary Art Space Manuka at 6pm tonight Thursday, June 12. Stasce’s constructions deal with relationships between the experience of the machine and Lander portrays her interaction with sites of anthropogenic change in Canberra. All welcome.
