The Face is alive and well at PhotoAccess

PHOTOACCESS is abuzz today with plans for National Portrait Gallery Director Angus Trumble to open their newest exhibition in the Huw Davies Gallery

“One Great Face”, they point out, coincides with the National Photographic Portrait Prize showing at the NPG until June 9.

This new exhibition, they tell us, represents a slight departure from previous open-ended members’ shows at PhotoAccess, inviting artistic interpretations of the theme One Great Face. “It seems that the fascination we have with the face can result in endless variations of pose, perspective and mood,” they say , and with photographic portraits by 50 local photographers, there’ll be plenty of scope to explore those variations.

While, we are assured, most of the portraits depict human faces, “some exhibitors chose to find greatness in non-human subjects, drawing on the capacity of an interesting face of any kind to move and engage the viewer.”

We can’t wait.

“One Great Face”, at PhotoAccess in the Manuka Arts Centre, Corner Manuka Circle and New South Wales Crescent, Griffith. Opening hours Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and weekends 12noon to 4pm until May 25. Opening 6pm Thursday, May 8 – all welcome.
