Fashfest 2014: Night 3 reviewed

THE large open space at the Brindabella Business Park was packed with a fashionable cohort of Canberrans who are bustling with curiosity and excitement about the much anticipated third night of Fashfest.

As people wait for the show to start the sparkling wine flows and a constant stream of cameras and iPhones capture the Canberra “street style” on offer. At 8.45pm the lights dim, hip hop duo Coda Conduct start up and the show begins.

The show starts with models in swimwear showcasing the mythical jewellery of Percival Luto. The gold and silver pieces, based on the mythological sea monster Kraken, include serpent like cuffs, rings and earrings. The creators manage to draw the crowd’s attention to the jewellery by hanging large silver and gold Luto logos around the models necks.

Next on the runway is Purepod. The pieces are made of vibrant colours and have oriental and aztec inspired elements. The pieces are complimented by extravagant headpieces including vases and elaborately woven crowns.

Hanny D follows with vibrant pink and orange coloured pieces mixed amongst striking black and white patterns. Despite the chilling temperature we are immediately transported to summer. Cute and flirty short and blouse combos and colour blocked dresses makes the clothing suitable for both work and casual wear.

The show moves on to the brand Character which is aimed at women between the ages of 60-80.

The clothing is showcased by smiling, confident models in digitally printed jumpsuits, sequinned capes and panelled pants. The range perfectly illuminates that age is no barrier to being fashion forward.

Audrey Blue is next on the runway and provides structured, classically cut and flattering pieces in dark tones that could easily translate from work to play.

Following from this is Zilpah Tart which showcases soft and feminine pieces including cotton dresses as well as casual pants and t-shirts. The outfits are complimented with statement handbags featuring bold patterns.

The crowd gives out a collective shiver when the models parade in the cheeky, fun but practical Tuffys and Tuffets underwear range. The range includes a multitude of colours and cuts as well as sportswear, the whole crowd seems to be smiling throughout this part of the show and so do the models.

The show concludes with Sovata which incorporates both clothing and headpieces. The clothes include mixed fabrics and colour panelling. The headpieces are intricately detailed and beautifully created but also practical for a day at the races. The face of Fashfest, Belinda Riding, concludes the set in a an amazing black and white dress with tulle overlay and yellow waist band, the perfect showstopper to end the night.
