Garbage strike back on for next week

Garbage

AFTER a false start this week the Transport Workers’ Union is threatening strike action against the garbage collecting SITA next Thursday and Friday.

Territory and Municipal Services are advising residents that, should the need be dire, green wheely bins can be taken straight to the tip.

“If the strike goes ahead, the Mitchell and Mugga Resource Management Centres will be made available for free disposal of household waste from green bins (such as bags of rubbish or bins on trailers) and recyclables for residents of impacted suburbs from the day of any industrial action. Residents will just need to provide proof of address (eg. driver’s licence),” said the acting director of ACT NOWaste David Roberts.

The Resource Management Centres will also open extended hours until 6 pm.

“CityNews” expects further updates on catch up services in days to come.
