Garbage strike coming next week

Garbage

HAVING taken a lowball bid from SITA for waste collection that guaranteed stripping workers’ pay and entitlements the ACT Government now faces a garbage strike.

The Transport Workers’ Union has voted to take industrial action which is expected to start next week.

“We continue to hope the TWU and SITA will be able to reach agreement without any industrial action. We understand that any disruption to household waste and recycling services is frustrating for Canberra residents,” said David Roberts, Acting Director, ACT NOWaste.
