Government legislation passes as expected

ACT Legislative Assembly

MINISTERS have been announcing the passage of legislation this morning.

Andrew Barr has killed off the Exhibition Park board:

From 1 January 2015, the functions, staff, assets and liabilities of the Exhibition Park Corporation (EPC) will be integrated into the Territory Venues and Events area of the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD).

How this ties in with the Cultural Facilities Corporation is anyone’s guess, I have asked the Minister’s office but no reply has been forthcoming.

Joy Burch has passed her clubs and pokies bill:

The Gaming Machine (Red Tape Reduction) Amendment Bill 2014 cuts unnecessary red tape for community clubs as part of Government and industry moves to reduce clubs’ reliance on gaming machine revenue into the future.

Joy’s also passed previously announced reforms to the Canberra Institute of Technology:

A new independent governing board for the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) will be in place next year following amendments to the Canberra Institute of Technology Act 1987 which passed the Legislative Assembly today, Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch said.

“The current CIT advisory council has served the Institute well, but the new Governing Board will enable CIT to compete more effectively in the education and training marketplace,” Ms Burch said.
