SIMON Corbell is asking Canberrans to share their ideas on his Low Emission Vehicle Strategy.

“A key element of the government’s commitment to making our city a better place to live, work and do business is to make Canberra a more sustainable city by reducing transport generated greenhouse gas emissions,” Simon said.

The discussion paper proposes to:

  • Promote the purchase and use of low emission vehicles.
  • Promote changes in driver behaviour.
  • Ensure the ACT government leads by example.
  • Complement actions in the Transport for Canberra policy that help reduce transport generated greenhouse gas emissions.

“The ACT government is already leading by example by reducing our own fleet emissions by replacing some fleet cars with zero emission electric cars and looking at options for lower emission vehicles when leases expire,” Mr Corbell said.

“To ensure the ACT government continues to lead, we are also developing an ACT government sustainable vehicle fleet strategy.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Canberrans and the motor industry to work with us to address the lowering of vehicle emissions as the ACT moves towards carbon neutrality by 2060.”
