Grass fire near Kings Highway

THE cause of a grass fire on the Kings Highway is being investigated as ACT firefighters work to control the blaze. fire1

The ACT Rural Fire Service is assisting the NSW Rural Fire Service with the grass and scrub fire on the Kings Highway, Burbong.

Firefighters had to drive off road to get to the scene and carried out a direct attack on the grass fire, which was approximately three hectares.

A small section crossed the railway line into the ACT.

A rapid response by New South Wales Rural Fire Service, supported by ACT units, meant the fire was under control very quickly.

The railway remains closed. Smoke may linger in the area.

ACT Territory, Venue and Events have advised that Stromlo Forest Park will be closed effective 12.30 pm today until further notice due to the total fire ban conditions in the ACT. Advice will be provided to the community as to when it will reopen.
