Gunning man flees police

A 28-year-old Gunning man will face court this morning after fleeing from police yesterday afternoon.

About 2.55pm, police attempted to stop the man’s green Holden Commodore on Antill Street in Dickson. Police say the vehicle was in extremely poor condition and had what appeared to be home-made number plates attached.

The driver fled from police into Downer, reaching speeds in excess of 120km/h in a residential area where the speed limits are 50km/h.

Police followed the Commodore at a safe distance and saw the man stop the vehicle and run into a house. He surrendered himself to police after a short negotiation.

The man was arrested and transported to the ACT Watch House. He has been charged with multiple traffic offences, including dangerous driving. Police will oppose bail.
