Hillclimbing returns to Fairbairn Park

LABOR MLA Mick Gentleman has burned up the track to officially re-open the Canberra Hill Climb at Fairbairn Park.

One of the oldest forms of motorsport hillclimbing sees competitors take it in turns to record the fastest lap of the day.

The Canberra facility has been closed for two years while the Southern District Motorsport Association (SDMA) undertook resurfacing.

The 960 metre long track has had the same compound applied as used in Bathurst on the famous Mount Panorama track.

“After taking a car out for a spin on this new surface I can say that this is one of the smoother and better road surfaces I have had the pleasure to compete on,” Mick said.
