Hot, dry summer for ACT – and more to come

CANBERRA has recorded one of its hottest, driest summers on record, getting just one-fifth of its average summer rainfall over December, January and February.sun1

Today the ACT has recorded its 20th summer day above 35 degrees, two more than the previous record in 1982-1983 and well above the average of five.

So far, just 29.8mm of rain has fallen over the entire season; with the average rainfall for a Canberra summer 165mm.

Temperatures are set to remain above 35 degrees until Friday, and there is expected to be some relief this weekend, with temperatures expected to drop to 24 degrees on Sunday.
