JAMES Roncon, ACTION’s Director of Public Transport is reminding public transport users the network is changing to a new timetable on Monday.

“While there are changes to the existing routes and timetables which passengers will need to adjust to, I’m confident the new network provides a better overall service for our growing city. It’s also a great time for new passengers to try out ACTION buses,” James said.

He lists the advantages of “Network 14” as:

  • greater alignment between weekday and weekend services meaning they run on similar routes
  • an 18% increase in daily trips through the Parliamentary Triangle and a 23% increase to weekend trips
  • a new direct service between Gungahlin and Belconnen
  • a morning peak service from Gungahlin to the City with no stops
  • increased Xpresso services between Weston Creek and the City
  • improved services to Brindabella and Majura business parks
  • a new service linking Molonglo to Woden and Cooleman Court and a peak hour Xpresso to Civic
  • a new service for Hume
  • new services to Springbank Rise and Casey and improved services to Crace.

“To assist commuters in the lead up to the network’s commencement and in its early days of operation, ACTION will have increased staff at the Tuggeranong, Woden, Barton, Gungahlin, City, Westfield Belconnen and Belconnen Community bus stations during the morning and afternoon peak periods. This started from yesterday.

“Advertising is also continuing on board buses, at bus stations with PA announcements and variable message boards at the Woden, City and Belconnen Community bus stations, at major bus stops and through social and digital media, print and radio.

“The start of the new network coincides with the rollout of the NXTBUS system, which allows for buses to be tracked online, via SMS, phone and digital displays. To use the NXTBUS system please visit www.action.act.gov.au/NXTBUS,” James concluded.

For more information on Network 14 please visit www.action.act.gov.au or call 13 17 10. A dedicated phone line (6205 5033) has also been established in operation until Friday 12 September 2014.
